Release notes for MECCA 2000 version 5.02. Jun/17/2009 Fixed: 1. typdrv addressed memory block below the memory block address (typdrv). 2. Some table sizes may not be written correctly when converting TT font to Type42 font for use with PostScript RIP's (otfconv). 3. The character outline builder "ftolg" did not flag (and abort) when it encounters bad outline data in a TT font (ftolg, mkolg). New/Changed: 1. Updated the resolution setting dialog when combining a raster image, to also include image size information (combinefile.tcl, tclIndex). 2. Added support for continuous row-to-row offset for pantographs (m2kbin, pantopedit, typdrv). 3. When generating print file, typdrv now scans the text characters in order to list all fonts used in the DSC DocumentFonts list. Before, special characters are not scanned, leading to fonts such as Symbol or Dingbat that may be missing in the DocumentFonts list (typdrv). 4. When printing to file, the folder is now remembered for the next print-to- file output, and saved to ~/.m2k.paths upon exit (print.tcl, m2kprocs.tcl, m2k). 5. TrueType font is now fully supported as a Type1, with the same special character mappings, along with support for MS symbol encoding, such as Wingding (typdrv, wrtpschart, otfconv, mkcodechart_all, t1font.tcl, m2kseet1.tcl, pschart1, amgraftt.enc). NOTES: 1. To use TT font on X11 (for small type size rendering, showing font samples, etc.) the "ttmkfdir" utility (a standard package from FreeBSD) must be installed. 2. PostScript RIP's require a TT font be made into a Type42 font format, which is a subset of the original TT font. Before this release, installing a TT font caused its Type42 equivalent be made, and stored in place as the "font" file. X11, however, provides full support TT font. Therefore we now keep both font files under the "fontdata" directory. For example, when installing a TT font named "fut/n" (FuturaStd-Medium as "normal"): before this release: fontdata/laser/fut/n -- Type42 font file after this release: fontdata/laser/fut/n -- the .TTF file fontdata/laser/fut/n.t42 -- its Type42 companion And in "laser.sub", a new field "tt" will be added to the tail of an entry that's using TT font. When typdrv finds this, it'll include the .t42 file instead. The TT font file itself will be used by X11 for rendering on screen, and therefore will let other applications (non-Amgraf) to use the same font, with ISO 10646-1, or MS-Symbol encoding. This release contains no software to update existing Type42 fonts (those TT fonts installed before this release). 3. The "amgraftt.enc" file will reside in the directory /usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/encodings and listed (along with "amgrafps.enc") in the "encodings.dir" file in that directory, as: amgrafps-1 ./amgrafps.enc amgraftt-1 ./amgraftt.enc ::Addendum:: This update includes v5.01 updates http://www.amgraf.com/updates/m2k/v501.txt
